CathyHughes founded Radio One in 1979. They now operate 69 Radio Station-s, with a focus on reaching an African American audience.

• They don't own anything in NYC: WBLS station is owned by ICBC.

They have a Tv One joint venture with ComCast and Direc T V.

In 2008 they acquired Community Connect, which operated Black Planet, Asian Ave and other such sites. That group is now called Interactive One, run by Ben Sun who came from Community Connect. Tom Newman joined Interactive One in 2007, coming from AOL.

They also own Giant Mag.
