* RudyRucker: *PostSingular* ISBN:9780765317414

* CoryDoctorow: *LittleBrother* ISBN:0765319853 awesome

* RichardKMorgan: *AlteredCarbon* ISBN:9780345457691 excellent now I have to read his other stuff, esp other TakeshiKovacs

* PJORourke: *On The WealthOfNations: Books That Changed the World* ISBN:0802143423 - Very disappointing. Like a marginally humourous CliffsNotes of AdamSmith. Notes critiques of FreeMarket, but things that quoting Smith if refutation/proof, rather than trying to explain things at a meaningful/complex level. Pointless. Though does have interesting bit about emergence of burgher/free-trader group in Europe.

* Anders (ed.): *YearsBestSf12* (ShortStory) ISBN:0061252085 (include RudyRucker "Chu" story mentioned at [z2005-09-20-StrossAccelerandoResimulated])

* CharlieStross: *Toast* (ShortStory collection) ISBN:0809556030 - lots of fun, themes that came up in HaltingState, etc. (including another source of "Lobsters").

* ClayShirky: *HereComesEverybody* ISBN:9781594201530

* DavidBrin, RudyRucker, others: *LiveWithoutANet* ISBN:0451459458

* KyleMacdonald: *OneRedPaperclip* ISBN:0307353168 - The ultimate BarTer story (not scalable, it was mainly SpecTacle), with guest appearances by AliceCooper and CorbinBernsen

* JohnHolt: *TeachYourOwn* ISBN:0738206946

* BillMoggridge: *DesigningInteractions* ISBN:0262134743 Didn't love it. It smells (and is bound like) an InteractionDesign TextBook destined to be foisted on DSchool students to prepare their IDEO indoctrination. It's often enjoyable to read interviews with people who've accomplished things, but it's hard to learn anything ActionAble from them. Has DVD "and":http://www.designinginteractions.com/ website.

* ReWired (Post-CyberPunk Anthology) ISBN:1892391538 excellent, includes some CharlieStross and CoryDoctorow I'd already read. The commentary "bits":http://thefix-online.com/reviews/rewired/ I found rather useless.

* RobertPutnam: *BowlingAlone* ISBN:0743203046

* WilliamGibson: *SpookCountry* ISBN:9780399154300 excellent, though some of the repetitive phrasing is irritating.

* CharlieStross: *The Family Trade* ISBN:0765348217 a little too lite, like cheesy fantasy - I kept expecting a unicorn to appear. And frustrating lack of closure, unless of course you read the rest of the series.

* SethGodin: *TheDip* ISBN:1591841666 (GodinDip)

* ErikLarson: *DevilInTheWhiteCity* ISBN:0375725601

* SamuelShem: *MountMisery* ISBN:0449911187 - sequel to *HouseOfGod*

* RudyRucker: *FlexAndTheElixir* ISBN:0765310597 lotsa fun, I have to be more tolerant of my clumsy NumberTwoSon.

* ChadFowler: *MyJobWentToIndia* ISBN:0976694018

* JimMcCarthy: *SoftwareForYourHead* (Sept'2005) ISBN:0201604566

* CoryDoctorow: *SomeoneComesToTown...* ISBN:0765312786 - very bizarre combination of WiFi/CellPhone debates with surreal fantasy that would make JorgeLuisBorges proud.

* CharlieStross: *AccelerAndo* ISBN:0441012841 - Excellent. I rather prefer the pre-SingularIty bits

* ChristopherPhillips: *SocratesCafe* ISBN:0393049566 see [z2004-04-08-PhillipsSocratesCafe] (Aug'2005)

* JaneJacobs: *CitiesAndTheWealthOfNations*

* JimLoehr: *The Power of Full EngageMent* ISBN:0743226755 (JiHi heard him speak at work)

* IFTF: *Health and HealthCare 2010* ISBN:078795974X

* MichaelCrichton: *StateOfFear*

* DouglasCoupland: *MicroSerfs* ISBN:0060987049 (re-read)

* CoryDoctorow: *EasternStandardTribe* (re-read, actually bought paperback)

* MarkHyman, MarkLiponis: *UltraPrevention* ISBN:0743448839 (didn't finish, but put it aside - unless you spend big bucks on tests and (their) interpretation of the results, you end up with an infinite number of suggested lifestyle changes. They're upfront about saying you don't have to do all of them, but (a) without the tests you're prioritizing in the dark, and (b) the overall impression is hopeless-guilt-inducing...

* AdamZickerman: *PowerOf10* (SuperSlow)

* MarkPilgrim: *DiveIntoPython* ISBN:1590593561 - excellent at covering the basics, and letting you know about some nice functions in the standard library. But a lot of the more indirect functions (lambda, etc.) seem annoyingly obtuse, and my current attitude is that they should probably be avoided unless you *really* need them, like if you're building some abstract framework...

* MichaelNKennedy: *ProductDevelopment for the Lean Enterprise* ISBN:1892538091 - skimmed it, not really in the mood for BigCo InnovatIon models. ProdDev as different from LeanManufacturing.

* NealStephenson: *The SystemOfTheWorld* (BaroqueCycle) - the trilogy seemed to move faster as it went along. Enjoyed all bits quite a lot.

* IainBanks: *TheBusiness* ISBN:0754023060 - disappointing. Nothing seems to be happening, then everything gets wrapped up too fast in a weird way.

* MaxBarry: *JenniferGovernment* ISBN:1400030927 - rather enjoyable anti-AnarchIst screed. Seemingly anti-AnarchoCapitalist, but really anti-CorporatIst.

* ScottWesterfeld: *SoYesterday* ISBN:159514000X - lots of fun, semi-guilty pleasure; sneaky making the father of a CoolHunter to be an EpidemiologIst; "older" woman sounds like DeeDeeGordon

* ClaytonChristensen: *The InnovatorsSolution* ISBN:1578518520

* ErnestoSirolli: *RipplesFromTheZambezi* ISBN:0865713979

* PeterLambornWilson: *PirateUtopias* ISBN:1570270244 (Jul2004)

* TomPeters: *ReImagine* ISBN:078949647X
