Erlang is a general-purpose concurrent (ConCurrency) programming language and runtime system. The sequential subset of Erlang is a Functional Programming language, with strict evaluation, single assignment, and dynamic typing. For concurrency it follows the Actor model. It was designed by Ericsson (TelCo) to support distributed, fault-tolerant, soft-real-time, non-stop applications. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erlang_programming_language

Elixir builds on top of Erlang to provide distributed, fault-tolerant, soft real-time, non-stop applications but also extends it to support Meta Programming with macros and polymorphism via protocols. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elixir_(programming_language)
