FedWiki Happening

Short 2014 c-MOOC organized by Mike Caulfield about using Smallest Federated Wiki. (He's using FedWiki as the short-name for SFW.)

Here's a description of the process. That page includes a list of participants, but I can't seem to edit it to add myself.

There's a Twitter list of participants.

Copying/moving the below to my SFW site.

Day1:

Day2: Find an article you are interested in and mine it for ideas. Peg those ideas to Metaphorical Names, and write up a page or two.

Dec17

  • Mike has people's sites up. I'm just using my pre-existing site.
  • Mike posted a video on how to make your bio page. Assignment: make your bio page.
  • Argh having to use double-brackets instead of Smashed Together Words seems like such a regression.
  • I've found switching from Chrome to FireFox has been good.
  • SFW is drifting away from the use of bullet lists???
  • and no text formatting without using the "special" Mark Down plugin?
  • Mike Caulfield posted a video on Idea Mining. cf Wiki Beats Weblog. Assignment: Post a page on your site about an idea. Give it a strong name, and write it in a way that it might be reused to support a point or add a dimension to a future discussion. It's a reusable idea.

Dec30 notes

  • Haven't been terribly active in writing, neither there nor here in my own WikiLog. Just not that kinda month.
  • Some bits that I wrote there were more about writing/aggregating Helpful pages for newbies (Starting A Fresh Wiki Space), and a couple ranty bits (Integrating Reading And Writing Tools).
  • at the moment I'm still not a fan of the fork-to-comment model. But I can believe it could work in that space between a WikiWeb of independent people and a more-formal TeamWiki. cf WikiWebDialogue

Excerpts of key note from Mike Caulfield on Wiki Proliferation, within Opinionated Wiki page:

  • Because what I've found is as I've moved my focus away from here's what the product could do to here's what a community could look like, people suddenly got it.
  • I pitched this for 6 months as the do-what-you-want erector set, and I failed for six months. I changed and said, hey, here's a community you could build with it. And it was like night and day. Everything changed overnight.
  • This might accurately describe a Need for some people, but that doesn't need that SFW is the best way to solve it... Though again, if you catch a group of people at a Sweet Spot where they want a discussion that Converges toward action, then maybe this works.
