People don’t use the same tools each time they embark on a collaborative activity: Because web services are centralized, a vendor must deliver a common denominator set of functionality which ultimately forces everyone to work within that framework. A key point here is that Groove is a development framework/environment, so comparing to a specific centralized service* isn't entirely appropriate. I wonder whether will provide some of this benefit, allowing different vendors to integrate their apps...
