It may look like a crisis, but it's only the end of an illusion.

Jon Udell explored his local library's search interface, so he could consider borrowing before buying. Unfortunately for me, the NYC Public Library system offers only a JaVa applet and telnet, no simple URI to stuff an ISBN into. Bah.
Unless they jump vendors, on their next upgrade(and if they've got any sense, they'll wait until it's not a point-zero release), and you'll see them using the same [RESTish] system as Hennepin County: http://catalog.hclib.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?&index=ISBN&term=0738206679
(Though that accursed applet can't go away too soon for me. I've hated it since the first time I downloaded it on a 14.4 modem.) --[Phil Ringnalda] 2002-12-04
