[Serial Killer] [Maury Travis] was tracked by printing out an Expedia map showing the location of a victim's body, and sending it to a journalist. He was the only ExpedIa user to focus on that map area that day, which led to his [IP] number, which [World Com] could trace back to his account for that day/time. (Travis later, ahem, hanged himself in his cell with his hands behind his back.)
Barely-related, the RIAA has forced (under DMCA) VeriZon to trace the identity of an ISP customer who's been sharing music. Welcome to the Transparent Society.
