Here's a idea: software which builds in the notion of a [Buddy System]: you monitor someone else's servers, and they monitor yours. The software wouldn't have to automate the matching process, that could happen via a central marketplace (though maybe that's a bad idea). So your system would monitor someone else, plus their system that's monitoring you so you know you're getting . I bet would be pretty good for this, given its network-central model.
