Weird idea : have a dev utility that takes a file of source code and inserts for each line of source, by putting an comment on each line (so you need a way to work around "real" inline comments). Then, when you run a documentation generator (like 's ) against the source code you get output files with in them. (I was thinking to build this into the document generator, but then as you edit the source code numbers keep getting reassigned. So you need to get them stuck right in the source code.)
