The discovery of Sedna will force the clarification of whether Pluto planet (vs a planetoid). More issues :)

Aug'2005 - not settled yet... I guess we'll leave it to the ...

Aug'2006 - it's "finally" settled - Pluto gets demoted to [Dwarf Planet] status. I'm not clear on where Sedna stands - definitely not as a planet...

Uh-oh, someone needs to re-do the [Wiki Junior] book on the !

Jun'2008: now they're calling this whole category "plutoids". Plutoids will be defined as celestial bodies in orbit around the Sun farther away than Neptune. Wow that sounds pretty weak. The two known and named plutoids are Pluto and Eris, but astronomers expect to find more. Another dwarf planet, Ceres, does not merit the plutoid designation because it is in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
