Martin Fowler says One of the most dangerous things about a traditional requirements specification is when people think that once they've written it they are done communicating.
The same could be said about Status Report-s, Plann Ing, and lots of other things.
in a bitchier mood, maybe these things aren't really expect to communicate anything via their actual content, but only via their existence - "see, we do this".
