While we all talk about the issue of whether EMail is dead, we're left pondering what to do instead, esp if you're trying to get the attention of a "normal human" consumer of a service. I've got paying customers with AOL email addresses, and trying to send them alert messages can lead to nightmares of trying to explain why AOL can be a black hole of email without any feedback to allow for reaction.
No, I do not think RSS is the answer here.
