Jon Stewart has been scoring big interviews lately, from Bill Clinton and John Kerry to some bigwig Republicans. All those interviews have been softballs.

• I think Bill Maher made fun of that in his latest show, though he didn't mention him by name ("we can't get the big guys because we actually ask real questions").

Conversely, when Stewart was on [Night Line] with [Ted Koppel] (in exchange for Koppel being on the Daily Show), he did a pretty good job of saying that Big Media was completely failing to do its job. Koppel tried to rationalize the current approach ("there are facts, and there is the truth"), and Stewart's response was kinda weak, but he'd made his point up front.
