It may look like a crisis, but it's only the end of an illusion.

R U Sirius interviews Howard Bloom re his [Global Brain] (Hive Mind?) book.
I was put through an isolation experiment by getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 1988. By 1991, I could no longer speak. I was too weak to talk and sometimes I was too weak to look at a page in a magazine. And the illness slapped me with something else even more isolating. There is a stress-handling system in the brain or in the body somewhere. And when it goes, you wouldn't believe what happens. Everything hits you as a giant stress. Your system is no longer able to handle the level of the stress. That means that if your wife walks into the room and says something to you, you feel like you've just been shattered by a cannonball.
