OPML is getting talked about again. See also OML, XOXO, etc.
Robert Scoble started it.
Phil Jones explains why OPML will probably win. The reason Dave Winer and OPML will win this, is because Winer really wants shared Out Lining on the internet. And he knows "why" he wants it. He has a VisIon, and a PassIon for it. He knows what he wants to do with it. Excellent points!
Though Les Orchard has an interesting response. He also notes that he has issues getting XSL to process OPML nicely - presumably because OPML's standard isn't quite there. But he provides an example of moving from format to format.)
and in his post distinguishing between Rss Aggregator subscription lists (which can hold info he doesn't want shared) and a Blog Roll, [Aristotle Pagaltzis] points to some Uche Ogbuji postings where he picks [XBEL] over both XOXO and OPML.
Phil also thinks we might as well just agree on OPML for Blog Roll-s also, and forget about FOAF for this. To me, FOAF seems like an interesting way to merge multiple Micro Format-s. But, if you're not transferring a person's bundle of data in multiple formats at one time, I wonder whether it's just easier to use those separate Micro Format-s on the wire, and let each end-point decide on its own Data Store strategy...
Dave Winer is building a winning Plat Form.
