[Eric D Beinhocker] on "Creating Strategy in an Unknowable Universe", excerpted from his [Origin Of Wealth] book. Rather than thinking of Business Strategy as a single plan built on predictions of the future, we should think of strategy as a portfolio of experiments, a population of competing Business Plan-s that evolves over time. This excerpt focuses on Micro Soft during 1987 (focus on Ms Windows? dump OS and do apps?). Considering how much Mono Poly-driven cash they had to throw around, I'm not sure this is an informative example for other managers.
