Marc Canter describes being an "original thinker": Being an original thinker means that you don't care about Citizen Journalism, search engines, blogging per se or any other trend or buzzword du jour that might emerge. You care about what you care about, stay FoCus-ed on your VisIon and wait for others to grok it.
