Salesforce Com is launching an [App Space] Plat Form for Social Networking. Initially Salesforce offered its own static data that lived only within the Salesforce platform. But now thanks to Web Service [APIs] and other SOA technology, it is becoming an environment for integration and interoperability with other applications and data. "Their product is beginning to make sense in a process sense rather than being data-centric," says Schneider. Salesforce now includes Work Flow as part of its service and supports pulling in order data or inventory data to close the loop of a business transaction. [Jeff Kaplan], managing director at [T H I N K Strategies], says [App Space] is a smart move because it extends Salesforce's exposure beyond CRM to companies looking for PorTal solutions.
Apr10: they acquired [KorAl] (a content collaboration tool) and announced [Salesforce Content], with an eye toward managing all types of content in a company - both structured information (e.g. CRM data like contacts and sales information) and unstructured information (Office Suite documents, HTML, video/audio files and email, etc). [Marc Benioff], chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, calls this "another step towards our vision of managing all information on demand."
[Nicholas Carr] sees them on a collision course with GooGle.
