VeriZon has some PatEnt-s applicable to VoIP. OmMalik thinks they're Business Method Patent-s and not very innovative/defensible.
They're trying to shut down VonAge, though that hasn't happened yet.
Nov16 update: VonAge lost their appeal (or, rather, the appeals court refused to even hear it), and has to pay $120M. The Holmdel, New Jersey-based company said yesterday that it may not have enough money to pay $253.5 million in debt due as early as December 2008. Vonage, which generated cash of $22.5 million in the third quarter, will try to restructure the debt.
