The [Defense Authorization Bill For2008] included the [Kyl Lieberman Amendment] which smells equivalent to the vote giving George W Bush to start the War On Iraq, this time for IRan.
The Open Society Policy Center opposed the idea.
It passed with a Roll Call vote.
John Mc Cain and Barack Obama were Not Voting!
in favor: Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer. Dianne Feinstein, [Harry Reid], and others (76 total)
against: Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, Chuck Hagel, [Tom Harkin], and others (22 total)
Oct25: The Bush administration says sanctions it is imposing against Iran - the first such U.S. action targeting the armed forces of another country - are part of a diplomatic strategy and not a prelude to war.
Oct28: To many Democrats, the situation has some obvious parallels. "We hear eerie echoes of the runup to the war in Iraq, in the way the president and the vice president talk about Iran," said Barack Obama in Iowa last month (then why didn't he vote?). Obama and other Democrats have been hammering front-runner Hillary Clinton for supporting a resolution they say gives the president leeway for a possible attack... But at least one Republican, John Mc Cain - who, earlier this year, took some heat for singing about bombing Iran to the tune of "Barbara Ann" - now says the talk is getting a little too heated. "It's unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, but we never want to threaten things that we're not prepared to carry out," [McCain] told [ABC] News.
