Apparently Amazon S3 is down, causing breakage all over the place. This is a good thing, in that it reminds people that nothing is perfect. You can either build stuff around it, not use it at all, or accept that stuff breaks sometimes. Risk Management requires accepting reality.
Might be worth remember this about TwittEr, too.
But this does raise the Mono Culture vs Resil Ience thing.
