In developing a [ZigBee]-based system at Quiet Care, we found that there was a risk of rapid sensor battery drain if the repeaters were unplugged or there was a power outage, because the sensors would keep seeking a network to join. (Eventually the chip software caught up to make it possible to control that retry cycle.)
Similarly, in my Temp Office, because I can't get Cell Phone connection, my phone battery drains much faster than usual, despite not being used for actual calls.
