on and getting it published. These days people write books after they're famous, not before... Over 100k books are published in the annually, and few sell more than a few thousand copies, and what causes books to sell may have little to do with how good a book is. Either way, to justify the effort you'll need reasons other than cash. Some good links to other people's tactical advice, and lots of comments.
