John Maeda on a presentation by [Tyler Brule] on his Monocle StartUp. His business model is quite unique as he uses Monocle as a platform for other ventures like special limited edition products that are only available to his subscribers, an affiliated food venture in Tokyo, and also as a means to support exquisite craft-based approaches to image creation in his magazine. (Brule previously launched [Wall Paper] mag, which was bought by Time Warner.)
I almost like Monocle mag. But ultimately, it still falls into the "jet-setter using pointless high-end Consumer Ism to make himself feel different from the proles" vibe as the more-obviously-evil [Wall Paper].
