Dave Winer thinks that an Open Source TwittEr client would be helpful, I assume in playing with ideas toward an Open Twitter.

There are a bunch.

[PwyttEr] is built with PyThon (using the Python TwittEr wrapper library) and TkInter.

There's also some command-line PyThon code using XMPP.
