Barack Obama keeps talking about big Infra Structure projects as one response to Credit Crisis2008.
Arnold Kling posits the employment benefit of infrastructure projects is more likely to go to the illegal immigrants who were laid off from housing construction and who otherwise would be headed back home. (Immigrat Ion)
[Steve Sailer] notes that the WPA specifically "locked out" immigrants. Moreover, during the Housing Bubble, blue-collar Americans in dying cities like Detroit and Cleveland largely missed out on the chance to move to places like Las Vegas for construction jobs - the illegal aliens would work for less.
David Schmaltz notes the similarity to the Infra Structure projects we pushed (via the IMF/World Bank) onto the Third World, and how well that worked for International Development. Ich bin ein thirdworlder.
