BP pledges to end all political contributions. BP's decision would mainly affect its business in the US, which made $840,000 of unregulated "soft money" contributions last year, split broadly equally between the Republicans and Democrats. The group has not made any donations in the UK or other parts of the world for several years and said most of its US contributions were a legacy of its Amoco and Arco acquisitions.
