Very interesting Michael Wolff article on the Music Industry. A couple interesting theories:

  • the music industry actually died 20 years ago, except it was "saved" by the CD, sucking people into re-buying all the music they already had, and getting them used to paying more for something which actually cost less to produce. Unfortunately the current tech-revolution routes around them.

  • the music industry actually only existed for a brief period of time, triggered by the creation of rock music. Until there's another as-significant change in style, it's unrealistic to expect (paid) music consumption to continue at the same levels.
