(2003-01-30) War On Drugs

Some War On Drugs news:

  • Military use of speed: American flyboys are given dextroamphetamine - a drug the DEA compares to methamphetamine and which military personnel affectionately refer to as "go pills" - to help them fight battle fatigue... When they returned, doctors gave them sedatives or 'no-go pills' to help them sleep. Pilots who refused to take the drugs could be banned from taking part in a mission.

  • Question on the appropriateness of federal involvement in various state ballot initiatives last November related to drug decriminalization (e.g. of marijuana in Nevada).

  • Review of the "gateway drug" model.
