(2003-03-12) Anti French Democracy

Nick Denton says But here's an idea: dismantle The French empire in Africa. France has long supported African dictators who rob their own people to go on shopping sprees in the Rue de la Paix. The US should support the democratic opposition to every French client across the continent. It's a win-win solution: promote democracy (Open Society) in a badly-governed region, and castrate the French at the same time. How about doing it everywhere, not just French clients? Of course, what does "support" mean? And would anyone want it anymore? It would be kinda interesting to push an Open Society agenda, giving just publicity and Election Monitoring (of course, the USA may not have great credibility in that anymore, either!).
