(2004-09-30) Chinese Collaboration

Google has been taking heat for censoring its News headlines in China.

Now the American School in Shanghai has turned over a bunch of North Korea-n refugees to the China police, which will lead to their return to North Korea.

ViaCom's Sumner Redstone doesn't worry about such things. We really don't have that problem. The programming on our channels in China is co-produced with a Chinese company. We are very conscious of the taste of the Chinese people and the Chinese government. And therefore we don't produce material that invites criticism from China.

Even ignoring the desires of Nike and Coca-Cola, I'm familiar with the arguments against Containment/isolation and Economic Sanctions. But I'll feel yucky the first time I have to do business with them.
