(2005-02-16) The Gates

I haven't been thrilled by The Gates. I lean more toward the Jon Stewart coverage last night, with Steven Colbert totally razzing on it. It changed my perception of what you could do with $20M. I used to think that kind of money could only be used for things of social value, like a new hospital wing. Now I realize it can be used for much different things, like redecorating a bike path.

Jon Stewart also made a joke about the gates getting covered with ads/graffiti. (Hmm, I wonder who's paying for extra security in Central Park?) I was thinking this installation is begging for some really creative hacking....

I've only seen them from a distance so far. I was at The Met on Saturday with the kids, and it seemed more important to get them fed and home after our trip through the weapons and mummies, then to walk through some gates in the rather crummy weather.

Some blog links.
