Jeff Hawkins at PcForum: (Last night someone noted that his book index doesn't include Roger Penrose.)

  • "When I wrote the book, I didn't know how to build machines that work like the brain (NeuroScience). But now I do (based on mathematical modelling of Neo Cortex)."

  • The Neo Cortex (only mammals have it) is mainly "about" memory and prediction.

  • A Prediction (Model) implies the potential for Surprise.

  • It's all models of conditional probabilities. Time dimension is key. (Bayesian)

  • Toy problem they are solving: image recognition.

  • Technology being called Hierarchical Temporal Memory

Sounds like Neural Net-s, not sure whether it's as broad in scope as he makes it sound....
