(2005-08-26) Muni Wifi Experiment

What seems odd to me about the whole Municipal Wifi discussion is that you never see a large city say "hey let's try this out - let's design an Experiment that gives us some information for a relatively small amount of money". I mean, nobody has really completed an Urban implementation of this, so I'm really dubious about cost estimates (hardware density required, hardware lifespan, maintenance labor costs) and outcomes (service quality inside concrete homes, usage levels, etc.)

Update: Chris Dent tells me that he never makes use of the Seattle Wa public WiFi because (a) it's often down, and (b) even when up he doesn't get a good signal indoors.
