(2006-07-05) Learning French

At UNIS my kids are supposedly Learning French. So far I'm not seeing much progress. So I'm assembling some resources.

• the PBS French In Action series gets lots of coverage, even from John Walker. Seems rather oriented toward Educating Adults and High School-ers. And not cheap, though maybe free online?

• what's that PBS series with the old French guy?

• the BBC has a promising-looking intro site.

• Language Adventure software sounds cool but has no MacOs X version.

• Mia's Language Adventure sounds good and runs on MacOs X but I'd really rather just having a VHS/DVD for the kids to watch for now.

• the Literacy Center site might be worth a little time.

• First Step en Francais looks appropriate but can't find a way to buy it.

• one of The Kids has actually used the BBC Muzzy tapes at school a couple times. $180 for a bunch of stuff.

• I wonder whether the StandardDeviants shows are any good? Cheap, so ordered one.
