(2006-11-06) Pataki Job Appointments
George Pataki is abusing his power over this last year as outgoing New York State governor to Appoint cronies to long-lasting jobs, esp to State Funded Authority groups. Pataki reappointed Peter Kalikow to run the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), which controls transit throughout the metropolitan area. Pataki reappointed Kalikow until 2012, which is two years longer than the new governor's term. Similarly, Pataki named his friend Charles Gargano, who spearheads the state's Economic Development efforts, to a new term on the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. That term ends in 2012 as well.
Dec'2006: Peter Kalikow said he would resign, so Eliot Spitzer could name his own person.
Apr'2007: not so fast.
