(2007-10-15) Thunderbird Status

I missed the whole discussion about whether Mozilla should Spin Out ThunderBird on its own. I'm rather nervous at the thought of WebMail becoming the dominant flavor of EMail: it's one of those areas where I'm still hooked on my Fat Client. Maybe because I just don't trust the big Oligopoly of providers, and want to be able to keep local copies? (In reality, I don't keep local copies of my IMAP account. Color me inconsistent. Or does that really speak to having more trust in a SmallCo than even Google?) Some of this perception of lack of fit makes me think that OSAF could have played a role here...
