(2009-01-16) Nyc Emergency Wireless Network Cancelled
New York State is cancelling an already-started project for a Disaster Response WireLess network. The state had a $2.1 billion contract with M/A-COM, a subsidiary of Tyco Electronics, which was chosen in 2005 to build the network. It was meant to link workers who would be the first to respond to an emergency. This was based on [the](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open Sky) Open Sky system. They delivered a standards-based infrastructure that attempted to leverage Open System-s to the largest degree possible, while adapting specific input/output to meet the customer's exact requirements. But there have been reliability problems in the test environments.
