(2009-02-27) Cuisinart Coffee Machine

Jihi had me buy a Cuisin Art Coffee machine a year or so back. She likes it because I can make a pot of coffee at 7am and she can get a very warm cup at 11am.

Unfortunately, if you're not careful, it will dribble all its fresh-brewed-goodness over your counter and floor... (Product Review)

  • when you first get it, you discover it's easy to think you've screwed the carafe lid on properly, but it's actually skewed. The solution is to keep the carafe on the (presumably-level) counter, lightly spin the lid around, and let gravity get it started in the right thread.

  • even having eliminated this factor a year ago, I get spillage a couple times a month. Sometimes it leaks for half a cup then the rest goes where it belongs, otherwise it keeps leaking until you catch it. Jihi believes the issue may be the paper filter not sitting quite right. It's true the filter doesn't sit down as low as I would like, so maybe it's getting mis-aligned as I close that assembly.

Either way, a pain in the butt, esp if you have a risk of untrained newbies trying to make a pot of coffee.

(On the plus side, when the electronics totally failed, the pot was still within its 3yr warranty, and they just replaced it: they sent me new pot, letting me use that shipping box to then return the old one. Experience Quality)
