(2009-05-13) Cto Club Mda
The Ny CTO Club heard a presentation on MDA (Model Driven Architecture) by Michael Guttman today. Unfortunately, the presentation was rather canned, and too broad to generally convince skeptics in the group who have been burned by architecture-tools in the past. But there may have been some interesting bits....
One approach that sounded semi-interesting

make a Domain Specific Language that essentially simplifies UML

model the business in that DSL

generate code from there (I think Eclipse/Java is where there's some action here)
Update: Jon Turner reminded me that a Model is always a simplification of reality, so expecting a model to be able to push solutions downstream smeels more unrealistic now than ever. Now, Guttman would probably argue that you refine your model in an Iterative way, but I think you're more likely to execute details and then try to generalize later. And then immediately start generating fresh exceptions...
