(2009-09-17) Wenger Education Scale
Albert Wenger, after a conversation with Gates Foundation folks, thinks that we need a huge-scale "PlatForm" for Educating Kids. I am not sure what its scope would be, but let's just say for the purpose of this thought experiment that it provides access to course materials and instructional videos. At such scale it would rapidly cover all subjects and at a levels of instruction. It would be the place where anyone who thinks they have a better way of explaining something would make the explanation available. There would be huge reams of data for determining the most effective materials, related materials, etc. I Commented to ask whether he's just talking about a coherent Product Review/Reputation Management system... I definitely agree with his point that educational institutions tend to over-invest in fancy new tech (e.g. "interactive" White Board-s) rather than embracing the P2P Social Software that's more mature and widely adopted (hmm, Conflict Of Interest?).
