(2009-11-24) Brin Android Chrome Future Combine
Sergey Brin said that Android and Google Chrome [[OS]] will "converge over time".
Phil Jones thinks this is a bad idea. I Commented - see thread.
But it makes sense to me. I think that Google's main interest is ensuring the future of a browser-based open Mobile Web. Microsoft's money-losing ownership (for now) of the NetBook OS market, and Apple Computer's even-more-locked-down IPhone/ITunes EcoSystem, were both threats to that.
I would assume that Chrome provides NetBook makers a way to have a totally free OS which is support-free because it doesn't do anything!
Likewise, Android gives TelCo-s and handset makers a free OS with backing.
If hardware-specific functions can be made accessible to JavaScript by something like PhoneGap, then developing "apps" for either platform becomes a non-issue. And there are a lot more site developers than app developers.
