page was renamed from z2011-08-19-HpCancelsPalmWebosHardware
HP has cancelled all it's Palm-WebOS hardware lines. HP acquired webOS with its $1.2 billion acquisition of Palm a year ago, promising to use the software in all manner of devices from phones and tablets to PCs and printers. Despite the deal, HP was slow to bring out new products based on WebOS, and the existing Pre and Pixi devices lost significant share.
Will they sell off Palm's Patent portfolio to another player in the patent wars?
They're also spinning out their entire PC business. Chief executive Leo Apotheker has made it no secret that he believes HP's future is in cloud-based software and services, which provide higher margins than PCs.
As part of that emphasis, they're buying Autonomy for $10B!
Sept22 update: Leo Apotheker is being replaced as CEO by Meg Whitman!
Nov'2012: They're accusing Autonomy of lying about their financials.
