(2012-04-05) Popper Clouds And Clocks
Peter Kaminski pointed me at Karl Popper's "OfCloudAndClocks", an Arthur Holly Compton Memorial Lecture from 1966.
Peter says: *he frames a typology for systems, running in a continuum from Clouds (irreducible, chaotic) to Clocks (reducible, predictable)... It's connected to:
- Arthur Compton
- who connects to the Compton Effect
- Karl Popper
- who connects to Falsifiability
- which apparently connects to Fallibilism [assertion]
- since Wikipedia/Karl_Popper says "falsifiability resembles Charles S Peirce's nineteenth century fallibilism. In Of Clocks and Clouds (1966), Popper remarked that he wished he had known of Peirce's work earlier" [fact check]
- which apparently connects to Fallibilism [assertion]
- who connects to Falsifiability
- Systems Theory
- Dave Snowden's Cynefin
- Reductionism vs. Holism, and
- "Breaking Things Down to Particles Blinds Scientists to Big Picture"
- by Jonah Lehrer.*
Now I just have to read it.
