(2012-05-01) Mozilla Drumbeat Into Webmaker

Mozilla Drumbeat is morphing into Mozilla Webmaker. (Maker)

Here is their Mission planning.

This summer, we're inviting everyone to join us to meet up, make something cool, and learn how the code behind the web works. It's called the Summer Code Party, and it starts June 23.

  • Manhattan search
  • nothing near Chicago yet, much less out in my boonies
  • you can create your own event, but there doesn't seem to be much guidance there....
    • ah, here's more info about running a Kitchen Table, Hack Jam, or Pop Up.
      • update: found this set of links about doing Kitchen Table events: You can do alot in 10 or 15 minutes.
        • this "case study" involves adults and is very interesting: “Children are more interested in the play aspect of remixing, whereas adults are more interested in the ability to do something real. We have real problems to solve, and we want to solve them while we’re learning.”... Many adults want to increase their searching skills, increase their ability to use the web more efficiently and be able to participate more. (Digital Literacy) They have tools to do this and are interested in learning to use those tools (kitchen table for Word Press was requested), but I can imagine many adults are just not interested in learning how those tools are built.
    • there should be some active projects to help work on here, but it's not loading for me.
      • update: now redirecting to new Thimble site (Mozilla Thimble App makes it ridiculously simple to create your own web pages. Write and edit HTML and CSS right in your browser. Instantly preview your work. Then host and share your finished pages with a single click.) with project list.
