(2012-10-05) Handling Real World Insanity Online
I'm inspired to write this by this article about owners of a restaurant getting hate calls and even threats because they refused to allow Mitt Romney to have a campaign stop at their place.
- People found out about the refusal from this Oct02 article. I'd like to know how the reporter found out about this.
- Update: comment on the article says "When we heard that Mitt Romney had eaten at Chipotle, we started googling Mexican restaurants he could have tried, found Oscar Aguirre's original Facebook post about the August request, then called Rosa Linda. No leaks." That post by the restaurant was on Aug06. The article didn't quote the post completely, so it came out much more partisan than the original.
So the first rule of "wow people are crazy now" impulses are to recognize that
- people have always been crazy
- we just see all of it now
So the question is:
- When someone does/says something crazy, should you write about it? If you do, should you do it with a Neutral Point Of View?
- When you find an article about someone doing/saying something crazy, should you LinkBlog it?
