(2016-12-09) Wife iPhone-6 iOS-10 Battery Draining

The Wife's iPhone-6 has had its battery dying really fast lately.

A little research leads me to suspect the iOS-10 upgrade.

  • Also seems to happen super-fast when she takes any photos
  • Hrm 10.1.1 seems like an even bigger culprit, and she has that.
  • could downgrade to 10.1. But they're rolling out 10.1.2 soon, maybe next week. Also, not sure how recently she did this upgrade, apparently some people have problems just for 2-3 days after the upgrade then it's fine.

Start here

  • Settings/Battery:
  • yes Camera is draining loads
  • KakaoTalk also 17% which seems high
  • other days, also Facebook
  • Low-Power, Airplane modes? Really? Nope.
  • turn off iCloud Keychain. OK
  • turn off Background App Refresh? Nope.
  • turn off auto-Brightness, OK
  • Restart: ok, done

Next here

  • Battery Life suggestion? Don't see that!
  • Disable Background App Refresh? Hmm, still not yet, but now considering it
  • Backup and Restore? Will try that tomorrow.

Actions

  • Dec09: turn off auto-brightness, iCloud Keychain. Restart. Outcome: no improvement
  • Dec11: turn off Background App Refresh for all apps (might turn back on selectively if she complains). Do Backup/Restore.

Feb26'2017 update: never got better, took it to AppleStore, it failed battery-hardware diagnostics hard. So they replaced the battery for $80.
