(2020-02-20) Matuschak Sharing Notes

Andy Matuschak has started sharing his note-taking output.

Two themes I'm excerpting on separate pages:

The tool is a bunch of home-brew stuff around Markdown. The method has a lot of Zettelkasten influence but layers on dynamic medium elements. We'll probably publish more on this subject this year. cf DigitalGarden

It's all just Markdown. Different editors for different tasks, but Bear (with some eldritch enhancements) for the common case. Lots of opportunity there. Mostly trying to resist shaving those yaks.

my tools autocomplete note titles. I type \[\[ then some search string. If I'm linking to a non-existent note, then yes, I type "\[\[Some initial title\]\]", then cmd+click the link to open that blank note in a new window.

This morning I was studying service workers and writing some notes on them, and being able to write SRS prompts inline just completely transformed the experience. It feels completely different than writing atomized notes in Anki. This level of q is the high-order bit, I think.

It's a research environment, created to help us think about topics in this space. It's not a practical tool for others to use.
