(2025-06-08) Buying $300 Chromebook/tablet
This smells like a good deal: $300 for a Chromebook where the keyboard is removable, giving you a tablet. "Lenovo - IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook 2-in1 Laptop - 13.3" Full HD Touchscreen - Snapdragon 7cG2 - 8GB - 128GB eMMC - with Keyboard - Abyss Blue"
Initially I'm using it mostly to watch video, since it's bigger than my Galaxy Tab.
Also installed MoonReader and Instapaper... though it's actually a little too big for holding/reading comfortably. But the bigger screen is nice for stupid PDFs.
MoonReader has some weirdness, where, when you try to Search, the Return "key" (on the on-screen keyboard) doesn't work!
- installed SwiftKey, which seems to fix that. But the tablet keeps forgetting that I've added Swiftkey, so I have to re-add it (as an input device) repeatedly.
GoogleDrive is also a big weird (esp without the physical keyboard): can't select multiple files in a list.
- even with the keyboard, I can select them, but then it puts them all into a single gzip to download. Then I have to unzip in an app, and there's no easy way to save them into the Books folder, except to copy/paste. Which always feels like a weird thing to do.
Jul05: trying to export MoonReader highlights like I do... hmm the Sharing menu doesn't giving me any useful choices?!?
- and the clipboard didn't seem to work
- finally exported-to-file, but it turns out to be some custom format I'd rather not play with...
- it finally strikes me that the "GMail" on here is just a browser shortcut, not an actual app. I download the true app, now I can use that for Sharing.
- ah, GDrive had the same thing, now behaves like I expect.
