(2026-01-24) Sippey Stash App An App To Stash Your Notes

Michael Sippey: Stash App - an app to stash your notes. No folders, no navigation. Just your timestamped notes, newest on top, oldest on the bottom. Fast search, #hashtags, @mentions. Stash App is sort of like your own private social media app...but without any of the social, or any of the media. Native for macOS and iOS, syncs via iCloud.

Keep your hands on the keyboard
Gmail-style keyboard shortcuts (j/k/e/#). Create, navigate, edit, and organize without touching the mouse.

#hashtags and @mentions
Use them for #projects or #ideas or @people or whatever you want. Autocomplete when creating, click on them to instantly filter your list.

Works in airplane mode
Your notes are stored local-first and sync when you're back online. Duh.

Here is something like a FAQ.

Why? I mean there are already dozens of note taking apps. I'm an inveterate note taker. But nothing worked the my brain does, so I made this for myself, and am sharing it with you.

No images. Stash App is a place to stash your notes, not your images.

It's not designed for long form writing; it's more like a log of what you've been up to and things you need to remember. Done with something? Archive it. Want to never see it again? Trash it

Stash supports just the perfect amount of Markdown for what Stash is good for. Headings, links, bulleted lists, blockquotes

Stash App uses iCloud via CloudKit. Your notes sync automatically between your Mac and your iPhone when they're signed into the same iCloud account. No set up required, it just does its thing.

Type #project or @alice in any note and Stash App will automatically extract them as links at the top of your note. In your notes view you can tap on them to quickly filter your notes to notes containing those #hashtags or @mentions. The app suggests existing tags as you type

The hashtags #todo and #done get some special coloring in the app to make them visually distinct. Todos are special! So are things you've done

Wait so is this a todo-list app?
No, silly. Use Things 3 for that. Seriously. But sometimes when you're capturing a note, you'll think of something #todo! At least I do.

Can I import or export my notes?
Yes. The Mac app has a very handy export feature. When you choose File > Export... any notes in your current view are saved to your computer as a Markdown file, with a title as an H1 (#) and your date headers as H2s (##). The Mac app also supports importing your notes using the same format. The app will parse dates, tags and mentions automatically -- here's the doc about our import format.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?
These are all on Mac: c> to create. j to navigate down your list, k to navigate up. e to archive a note, # to send it to the trash. enter/return to edit, ⌘+enter to save.
